In the next episode of ALUMS Chat, we are pleased to welcome Muhammad Abubakar Umer (BSc 2009), Co-Founder and CEO of DAT AI Systems and DAT Media, for an engaging conversation on technology, public service, and building scalable impact.
A graduate of LUMS and a Chevening Scholarship recipient, Abubakar is a communications technology expert who has worked at the intersection of governance and innovation. He began his career contributing to digital media and e-governance initiatives for the Government of Punjab, improving service delivery through technology, before pursuing a Master’s in Media and Communications Governance at the London School of Economics and Political Science.
In 2023, he co-founded DAT AI Systems to address challenges faced by organisations managing large in-field workforces. Through a WhatsApp-based platform designed for low-connectivity and low-digital-literacy environments, the company enables seamless coordination between organisations and field staff while also contributing to reducing worker exploitation. Their work has already supported major public-sector organisations, including the Lahore Waste Management Company.
Alongside this, Abubakar founded DAT Media, a venture focused on creating simple, authentic, and responsible media through storytelling, documentaries, and campaigns. His work reflects a commitment to using technology and communication as tools for meaningful, people-centered impact.
