This year’s conference, titled 'Tashkīl-e-ʿIlm aur Lisānī Siyāsat: Aik Tārīkhī aur Siyāsī Muḥākmah', explores the complex relationship between language, knowledge production, and political power in colonial South Asia, with a particular focus on the languages spoken in present-day Pakistan.
Drawing on critical scholarship, the conference examine how colonial institutions and technologies, as well as local literary traditions, shaped emerging language-based identities and epistemologies. It will also consider the enduring legacies of these colonial discourses in the post-1947 context.
