  • Profile

Dean & Associate Professor, SAHSOL

Dr. Sadaf Aziz joined the Department of Law and Policy as an Assistant Professor and was amongst the small cohort of faculty who launched the BA-LL.B. program here.  She designed the first labour law and jurisprudence courses for the program and pioneered field research-based courses such as law and social justice.  She completed her PhD in Law from the University of Melbourne in 2020.

Dr. Aziz’s research interests are in the areas of legal and political theory and the comparative and historical study of legal regimes in the subcontinent.  She is the author of the book “The Pakistani Constitution; A Contextual Analysis”, a part of the highly acclaimed Constitutional Systems of the World series, and has published articles and chapters focused on gender and constitutionalism, constitutional foundations, and the interface of liberal and non-liberal legal orders.  Currently, she is revising a second book manuscript investigating the early Pakistani state.

Dr. Aziz continues to contribute to projects and reports addressing arbitrary policing, miscarriages of justice and the use of capital punishment in Pakistan.  She is dedicated to curricular innovation and in ensuring that students are equipped with the tools to engage with the justice system with a view to addressing and ameliorating systemic inequalities.
