Ajmal is a public sector governance and social development specialist with extensive experience in management, institutional reform, policy development, and implementation. A former civil servant of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS), he has held key leadership positions across provinces of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the federal government in the mainstream government and several flagship public institutions. Committed to public service, social innovation, and capacity building, he has worked extensively in governance, social reform, education, local government, institutional development, and public finance. His last assignment with the government was as Chief Instructor, Pakistan Administrative Staff College, Lahore. He received a Master's in Development Planning from the University of Queensland with the Peter Wood Memorial Award for academic excellence, an M.A. in Economics, and an MBBS from Pakistan.
 

He has also contributed to nonprofit leadership through senior roles in the Rural Support Program Network and primary healthcare initiatives. His research interests lie at the intersection of governance, institutional change, poverty, inequality, and public sector reform. He has published on local government systems, dynastic politics, and the socioeconomic impact of WTO policies. He has engaged in research-based consultancy assignments for international development organizations, including the Asian Development Bank, DFID, and CIDA. He has also taught at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. At LUMS, he brings a rich blend of practical insight and scholarly inquiry to studying and teaching governance systems, management, and development.
