LUMS Welcomes Alumna Saba Karim Khan for Launch of Home #itscomplicated
LUMS recently hosted the launch of Home #itscomplicated, a heartfelt anthology curated by Saba Karim Khan (BSc 2006), an Academic, Author, and Award-Winning Filmmaker. The event featured an engaging conversation with Dr. Ali Khan, Dean, Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS); Awais Khan, Author; and Omar Shahid Hamid, Author. The discussion was moderated by Khurram Koraishy, Marketing Director, Oxford University Press.
The evening began with reflections on how the idea for the anthology took shape at the Karachi Literature Festival and gradually grew into a deeply personal journey. “Home #itscomplicated is really an invitation to begin a different kind of conversation about Pakistan,” shared Saba. The collection brings together 24 contributors from varied walks of life, celebrating stories of identity, connection, and quiet resilience.
Adding to the conversation, Dr. Ali Khan reflected on how his connection to Pakistan has always been shaped by family, memory, and the shared joy of sport. Recalling his grandmother’s courage and his experiences abroad, he spoke fondly of the role cricket played in keeping him connected to home. Remembering the 1992 World Cup, he said with a smile, “I remember listening to the match on the radio and feeling that pride. For me, that was Pakistan.”
The discussion also highlighted the creative journeys of other contributors. Omar Shahid Hamid shared his experiences as both a writer and police officer, while Awais Khan reflected on the life of a writer in Pakistan, describing it as a path filled with challenges but also with deep purpose and connection.
The event brought together students, faculty, staff, and writers for an evening filled with warmth, reflection, and a shared sense of belonging. It was a celebration of storytelling, community, and the many ways we continue to find and redefine home.
